He is survived by his three sisters: Janice Kentch of Ft. Madison Iowa, Marjorie McCain of Millington Tennessee, and Sharon (Marion) Strawhacker of Ft. Madison Iowa and by his seven children: Bradley (Sandy) Fedler of Webster City Iowa, Mark (Lori) Fedler of Tiffin Iowa, Deborah (Glen) Snyder of Fairbank Iowa, David Fedler of Lakeland Florida, Laura Kolars of Muscatine Iowa, Steven Fedler of Candler North Carolina, Jonathan (Kelley) Fedler of North Liberty Iowa. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Beuna Fedler, his dear wife, Jean Fedler, and daughter-in-law, DaLonna Fedler.

Dean grew up on a farm outside West Point and went to live with his grandmother Dora in Ft. Madison to complete high school. While working at a service station, he overheard discussions between Joe Guzman, who was one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and another co-worker.  As his interest grew, he started to attend meetings of the Witnesses, where he met his wife, Jean Creger. They were married on August 13th 1955. As an alternative to enlistment, he was assigned civilian work at the hospital in Ft Madison, then the University Hospital and the Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research in Iowa City.

Dean opened and operated one of the first health food stores and fitness gyms in the Iowa City Area.  He was very good at inventing, building, and fixing things.  He had an auto body shop, built bunk beds and sold about anything.  He always liked to tinker with things and ideas, and he could talk your ear off about his projects.  He was particularly appreciative to attend conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses, including the 1958 International Convention at Yankee Stadium in New York City, where he assisted with the baptism.  Dean enjoyed playing guitar, singing, camping, wood working, and eating ice cream.  Dean will be missed.
