Audrey Mae Carlson
Audrey Mae Carlson, 96, of Oelwein, IA, passed away July 24th, 2024, at Arlington Place, Oelwein. Family will hold a service at the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing, MN, at a later date.
Audrey was born May 20th, 1928, to Oscar and Viva (Enberg) Bostrom in Red Wing, MN. She had one sister and three brothers. Audrey was a switchboard operator when she was in high school. She started working in the office at the Red Wing Shoe Company after graduation. There, she met Don Carlson and on June 4th, 1949, Donald and Audrey married in Trenton, WI. After the birth of their son Mark in 1950, Audrey and Mark took a five day trip on a train to meet Don at Mare Island, CA where he was stationed in the Air Force. She took training and learned how to operate an IBM punch card machine. She did that while they lived there. Upon returning to Red Wing, Don became a shoe salesman for the Red Wing Shoe CO. Pamela was born in 1952 and Jeff in 1959. They moved to Oelwein, IA in 1962, where Don cont'd his career. Audrey was always very active at the Oelwein Zion Lutheran Church until she could no longer do so. She loved flowers and won awards for how beautiful they were.
She also worked at the local Hallmark Shop for over thirty years. Audrey leaves behind to celebrate her life; Her son, Mark (Susan, daughter Sara, stepsons Chris and Mike) her daughter, Pamela (Terry Schauer, daughters Chelsey and Allison) her son, Jeffrey (Carla, stepchildren Jennifer, Andrea, Cory, and Travis), fourteen great-grandchildren, brothers Dennis (Cheryl) and Robert Bostrom, her sister-in-law, Phyllis Bostrom, several nieces, nephews, and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents Oscar and Viva, in laws, Russell and Esther Carlson, her brother, Donald Bostrom, her sister Joyce and brother-in-law Harv Bjork, and a sister-in-law, Darlene Bostrom. To Audrey, family and friends were her world. Any memorials can be directed to the family, to be designated at a later date.
