“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Tim. 4:7
This captures the essence of how Brian ran through life touching the hearts and minds of his family, his friends, and his many students.
Brian was a high school science teacher for thirty-six years, thirty-two of which were in Columbus Junction. He was an avid runner, a softball player and coach, a cattleman, and through his life shared his love of music by playing the tuba and using his beautiful singing voice in choirs, solos, and The River Junction Barbershop Quartet. He lived his life as a Christian and was a lifelong member of the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church. Brian was very proud of being a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the Army for two years and being an active American Legion Member.
Brian married Kristie Johnson in Wapello on December 17, 1977. They had two daughters, Alissa, and Sena. They lived the majority of their married life on “Cummings Corner”, the farm where Brian was born. His love of farming and agriculture was always displayed on the corner where there has been a herd of “red” cows.
Brian will be greatly missed by his wife, Kristie; daughters Alissa (Nathan) Villhauer of Riverside, IA and Sena Cummings of Columbus Junction. He is also survived by his granddaughter Shelby Villhauer and great-grand-daughter Brooklynn of Iowa City. Brian will also be missed by his brothers-in-law Tom (Peg) Woodruff and Kent (Sue) Johnson as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen, and Alice Cummings, sister, Doris Woodruff, and infant brother, Dean Cummings.
