Sandra Lee Bright

Sandra Lee Bright (Kemp), 79 of Waverly, passed away on Friday, February 23 of natural causes.

A funeral will be held on Sunday, March 10 at Crosspoint Church in Waverly(215 3rd Street NW, the NW entrance is handicap accessible). Visitation begins at 1pm with the “Celebration of Life” following at 2pm. There will be a time of fellowship after.

Sandra was born November 11, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa. She was adopted into the loving home of Walter and Cora Kemp at the age of three. Sandra graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School and went on to work as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines.

Sandra married the love of her life, William Bright, in 1968. They resided in Waverly most of their marriage. They raised three children; Mike, Stephanie, and Sarah. Sandra loved quilting, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She had the gift of making everyone who entered her home feel welcomed and she made sure they were well fed. Sandra also loved the many years she worked as a hospice volunteer.

Sandra loved helping others…whether taking a meal to someone who needed one, volunteering for the Red Cross, sewing blankets for Retrieving Freedom, or making doll clothes with her doll club.

Sandra loved her grandkids and enjoyed: yearly trips to Adventureland, baking, sewing, fishing, doing puzzles, going to parks, and many other adventures at “Grandma’s House” that always ended with eating ice cream. One yearly event she looked forward to was the Easter egg hunt on the land with the grand prize being the treasure inside the “black egg”.

Sandra accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior when she was in her 30’s. Sandra and Bill were actively involved in the Waverly Christian Fellowship for many years. They were involved in Crosspoint Church in Waverly until present time. Many dear friendships were developed in both.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, William Bright. She is survived by her children: Mike(Jenny) Bright of Allison; Stephanie(Steve) Thoen of Glenwood, MN; Sarah(Scott) Duit of Rochester, MN; ten grandchildren William(Cari) Lee, Elizabeth Bright, Kristianna Bright, Meghan(Nathan) Kramer, Myranda Thoen, Macabe Thoen, Makena Thoen, Andrew(Cassidy) Duit, Myles Duit, Josiah Duit; 2 great-grandchildren Layton Lee and Brecken Lee. Sandra will be dearly missed by family and friends. We take comfort in knowing that she is home with the Lord and reunited with her husband, Bill, after only 6 months apart. “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus”.
