Obituary for Jerry "Barney" Dean Zimmerline

Jerry "Barney" Dean Zimmerline peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on February 23rd, 2024, after his fight with cancer. He was 71 years old.

Barney was born March Ist, 1952, in Greenfield, Iowa. He was the son of Alwin Lyman Zimmerline and Mildred Maxine (Knorr) Zimmerline. Barney was raised and lived his whole life in the Fontanelle area. He graduated with the class of 1970 from B-F School District.

Barney was united in marriage to Julie Miller February 14. 1976 at the Fontanelle Emmanual Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born; Justi, Juree and Jade. Barney married his best friend, Mara Hafner on July 6, 1996 in their own backyard.

Throughout Barney's life, he worked at Claytons Auto Salvage, Albanis Contracting, Cardinal Glass, JJ Westoff Construction, and City of Fontanelle. Barney enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, including gardening, trapping, coon hunting, trail riding, hobby farming (horses, goats, mules, donkeys), collecting antiques, junkin, scrappin, auctions, flee markets, shooting pool, stag at Williamson, many trips to Whatcheer and Rutledge, hanging with the good ol boys at the Clayton junkyard, spending time with family and friends playing hucklebuck at many local bars, but mostly hanging out at his new favorite place; The Rustic tap. Barney enjoyed time with all his family but especially the light of his life was his grandkids and great grandkids.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Alwin and Mildred, brothers Alwin Jr., Jay, Jeffrey (in infancy), his granddaughter Jentri Christensen, niece Jy| Zimmerline, father- in- law DeLane Pooch, mother-in-law Valdene Pooch, brother-in-law David Hafner, and his favorite fur baby; Nixon, and many other fur babies.

He is survived by his wife, Mara Zimmerline. His three children: daughter Justi Zimmerline (special friend Boe), Juree Christensen (Josh), and son Jade Zimmerline (special friend Andrea), his eight grandchildren: Jenna[(Ben), Joslyn (Jeremy). Jory (Bailey), Jozie, Jaxon (Lily) Jevin, Jazz and Jett. Three great grandchildren; Jazelle Arin and Jeremy Lamont Jr. Daye and Asher Jerry Maas, two brothers; Jim (Janet) Zimmerline, Jack (Donna) Zimmerline, sister-in-law Maureen (Alan) Blanchard, sister-in- law Pat Hafner-Harrison (Rick), Aunt Georgia Crawford, Julie Christensen (Dary|) mother of his children and special friend, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other special relatives and friends, and his fur babe, Midge.
