Obituary for Richard Allan Holmes

Richard Allan Holmes, 90, of Stockton, IA, passed away on December 9th, 2024. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. 

Richard was born on October 15th, 1934, to James Clinton and Eva Marie (Lahr) Holmes in Manilla, IA. He attended Durant High School and went on to serve in the Navy from 1955 to 1957, being honorably discharged in 1961. On January 4th, 1958, Richard was united in marriage to Donnalee McKee at the United Brethren Church in Walcott, IA. 

He worked as a coremaker for Quality Foundry in Stockton, IA and eventually went on to work for Case IH in Heat treatment for agricultural equipment. After many years in East Moline, IL, he retired from CASE IH/Tenneco in July 1990, a proud member of Union 1304. Richard enjoyed fishing and working outside in the garden, and he was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Davenport, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva Holmes; his brother, John Holmes; his sisters, Ann Rice and Rosemary Holmes; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Tomlinson. 

Richard is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Donnalee Holmes; his sons, Dennis Holmes of Stockton, IA, and David Holmes; his grandchildren, Daniel Holmes of FL, Devin (Dawn) Holmes of UT, Dalton (Megan) Holmes of WA, and Lily Holmes of ID; his great-grandchildren, Alice and Ava Holmes of FL, Grayci and Ryin Holmes of UT, and Fiona and Bailey of WA; his sister, Kathleen Tomlinson of Wilton, IA, and his sister-in-law, Margaret Holmes of Alden, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
