Rev. Donald Richard Walters

Rev. Donald Richard Walters, 73 of Des Moines passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024.  He was born August 2, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio.  He married Wanda Jean (Steppe) of Dayton, Ohio on April 22, 1972. 

He graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1973 and a Master’s in Computer Science from Wright State University in 1981.  He spent many years working in computers for the air force at Wright Patterson Airforce base.  He was later called to the ministry and graduated from Eden Theological Seminary in 1989.  He served Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme, Iowa for many years.  He enjoyed reading, watching movies, playing guitar and camping. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mary Alice (Frazier) Walters and sister Margaret Ann.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda (Steppe), sister Sue A. of Dayton, Ohio; brother Dennis A. and wife Linda of Xenia, Ohio; 3 sons, Tim of Urbandale, Joe and wife, Becky of Urbandale and Adam of Des Moines; 3 grandsons Michael, Jacob and Stephen of Urbandale.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday August 9th at 10:00 am at the Urbandale United Church of Christ, 3530 70th St., Urbandale, Iowa 50322.  Family visitation will precede the service at 9:30 am.
