Glen Davenport Walker
Glen Davenport Walker, 98, longtime Ankeny resident, passed away at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab on August 19, 2024.
Glen was born in Des Moines, IA on July 30, 1926. He was the son of Charles Benford Walker and Florence Eulala Cruzen. He was the youngest of seven children. He was raised in Crocker Township, Polk County, Iowa. He graduated from North High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war, he enrolled at Iowa State University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Glen farmed in the Elkhart area and near the Cottonwood Recreation Area on the Des Moines River.
He enjoyed visiting with his family and loafing with his friends at the Ankeny Hy-Vee. Glen liked long walks, singing, poetry, gardening and a curiosity about life.
Glen is survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend thanks to doctors and nurses at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, the staff at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab for their loving and compassionate care they provided Glen, and Suncrest Hospice for making him comfortable in his final days. No services are planned, a private family graveside burial service will take place at a later date. Rest peacefully Glen.
