Janet Kay Savage

Janet Kay Savage, Age 84, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Sunday April 7, 2024 from complications due to a fall.

Janet was born on February 16, 1940, the daughter of Walter C and Beverly E (Rohrssen) Zahn, in Waverly, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, graduated from Waverly High School in 1958. On May 24, 1959, Janet married Jack Savage atSt. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, IA. Janet worked at Fred’s Super Value while in high school and for the Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District retiring in 1997. Janet and Jack lived in Anaheim, CA while Jack served in the U.S. Navy moving back to Waverly in 1960. Janet was an active member of St.

Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly volunteering in the church office and kitchen, helping with many funeral lunches. Janet also volunteered at Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly. Janet loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. 

Those left to cherish Janet’s memory are her children, Lynda (Dave) Mulder, of Albia, IA, Mark Savage, of Waverly, IA, and Melissa Hallman, of Omaha, NE; her grandchildren, Tarah (Todd) Downing, of Prairie City, IA, Dustin Mulder, of Bloomfield, IA, Brandi Mulder, of Prairie City, IA, Allyson (Dawson) Spurgis, of Omaha, NE, and Peyton Hallman, of Waverly, IA; her great grandchildren, Teague, Logan, Kase Downing, EJ and JR Mulder; her sisters, Sandra Hagemann, and Cheri (Tom) Gronoski; brother-in-law Don Garner; brother-in-law, Terry (Verilyn) Savage of Waverly; sister-in-law Sherry (Jerry) Gilley, all from Waverly; and her dog,
Millie plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, parents Walter and Beverly Zahn, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Irene Savage; sister Diane Garner, and brothers-in-law Don L Hagemann and brother-sister-in-law Henry and Helena Savage.

Per Janet’s wishes, she has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 4 PMwith a prayer service at 3:45 on April 27, 2024, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Narthex with Pastor David Efflandt and Pastor Patricia Shaw officiating. A private burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
