Michelle Leora Moore - Stills
In Loving Memory of Michelle Moore September 20, 1962 - September 21, 2023
Michelle Moore, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and dedicated special education teacher, passed away on September 21, 2023, at the age of 61. Born on September 20, 1962, Michelle was the cherished daughter of Clarence and Phyllis Stills. She is survived by her parents, sister, Tamera Bice, and two children, Christopher and Cassondra Moore.
Michelle's life was characterized by her passion for teaching and helping others. In her early life, she chose to teach special education at Ballard Elementary School, advocating for the most vulnerable students in our schools and helping them to realize their full potential. While she faced chronic illness during her life that caused her to retire from teaching, the boundless patience, kindness, and love for helping others that touched the lives of so many students would not fade. In recent years she has been known affectionately by those in her home as Honorary Activities Assistant, after seeing how much Michelle enjoyed not only attending activities but also helping other residents with them as well. When she wasn’t running around between different activities, Michelle enjoyed playing games with her kids, visiting with friends, and championing her alma mater, Iowa State, at any opportunity.
A memorial service to celebrate Michelle's life will be held on Friday, September 29 at United Methodist Church in New Virginia, Iowa. Visitation will start at 1pm with service following at 2pm. -In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations. The family will distribute them in her honor to continue her advocacy for individuals with special needs and supporting her homes effort to continue helping their residents live full lives, two pursuits that brought her so much purpose during her life.
As we remember and honor Michelle Moore, let us also remember to cherish each day and the loved ones who enrich our lives. Michelle's light may have dimmed, but her memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Michelle. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on in the lives you touched.
