Vernon L. Houtz, 93, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11 at the Grandview Community Bible Church in Grandview, Iowa.  Service to be held at 11:00 AM with lunch afterwards.  A private graveside burial will be held at Edwards Cemetery in Oakville, Iowa.

Vernon was born June 21, 1930, in Burlington, Iowa, to David and Anna Mae Houtz.  He married Phyllis Bell Mellinger June 14, 1951.

Vernon attended Wapello Schools, was a USMC veteran and member of the Louisa County Historical Society.  He enjoyed camping, woodworking and being with his family.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Grandview; Four daughters, Karen (Bruce) Morgan of Washington, Iowa, Janet (Jerry) Yakle of Wapello, Diane (Kurt) Schriener of Davenport and Trish Elser of Naples, Florida; Seven grandchildren, Chad Morgan, Patrick (Jennifer) Morgan, Doug Yakle, Jason (Tessa) Yakle, Zachary Schriener, Thomas Schriener and Kirsten (Dane) Verlato; Eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; one brother Robert Houtz, Willits, California and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Steven Houtz, sister Janice McCartor and brother Denis (Buzz) Houtz.
