Paulette Salladay

Paulette (Bailey) Salladay, 79, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 12th, 2023, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa.  A Celebration of Life will be schedule at a later date in Wapello, Iowa.

Paulette was born on July 4th, 1944, in West Liberty, Iowa the youngest child of Frederick and Emma Hahn Bailey. She graduated from high school in West Liberty, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Frank Salladay on December 27th, 1969, in Muscatine, Iowa.

Paulette was a homemaker until her daughter grew older. She then became a childcare provider and elder caregiver until she retired. She moved from Cairo, Iowa when her husband passed away in 2007 to live in Washington with her daughter.  Later she moved in with her daughter’s mother-in-law, Sue Ousey until entering a retirement home. Sue and Paulette were fondly referred to as the Golden Girls.

Paulette loved spending time with family. She enjoyed reading, celebrating with friends, garage sales, shopping and family get-togethers. Paulette was liked by everyone she met.  Her sweet, kind nature and quick-witted humor will be dearly missed by her family.

Those left to honor Paulette’s memory are her daughter, Tracy Ousey (Chris) of Washington, Iowa; grandchildren, Tyler (Kat) Ousey of Washington, Iowa; Ladd Ousey (Stephanie) of Washington, Iowa; Drew Ousey (Sumer) of Talleyrand, Iowa; and Chris Holt of Washington, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Noah, Mason, Adeline, Rose, and Beautii; a brother, Gary (Barbara) Bailey of Kennewick, Washington; and her brother-in-law, Clarence Salladay, Wapello, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Paulette was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Frank Salladay and her siblings; Norma (Marvin) Finucan, Nola (John) Krogman, Darlene (Leonard) Millage, Maxine (Ivan) Young, Shirley (George) Schneider, JoAnne (Gene) Weig, Sandra (Loren) Lindhorst and Dennis Bailey.
