Eugene Grant Dick II

Eugene Grant Dick II, 85, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed from this life on October 5, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was known as Grant to everyone who knew him.  He was born August 20, 1938, in Drumwright, Oklahoma.

After graduation from high school in Winfield, Kansas, he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1957 to 1962. Grant served aboard USS Hooper Island and USS Klondike.  While aboard the Hooper Island he participated in Operation Hardtack in 1958 and witnessed over 20 atomic blast tests in the Marshall Islands. He was honorably discharged January 29, 1962.

After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he went to work for Jarvis Auto Supply in Winfield Kansas, later transferring to the Jarvis store in Anthony Kansas.  Grant lived with his wife and family in Anthony for the next four decades. During this time, he was a member of the Anthony Civil Defense group, the Anthony Fire Department and an Emergency Medical technician and ambulance driver.  He was Harper County Kansas Undersheriff for two years and an Anthony Kansas Police Officer for four. He had worked in the Harper County Maintenance shop and the City of Anthony Maintenance shops as a mechanic and supervisor. He later became plant supervisor of the City of Anthony's power plant.  Grant retired in 2000. He was a member of the American Legion and Amvets.

Grant was a jack of all trades and a master of most. There was no task that he was not willing to try.  A very accomplished mechanic, woodworker, and metalworker, he enjoyed all of those in his spare time.  He and his wife Dona enjoyed camping in their RV trailers, and he cherished his time spent with family and friends.

Grant is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dona of Oklahoma, and their children: Gregory (Caroline) of Iowa; Kevan (Christine) of Texas; and Tamatha (Blake Lister) of Oklahoma. He leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren: Nathan Hollis of Pennsylvania; Zachary Anderson (Taryne) of Kansas; Bradley Dick (Breanna) of Texas; Jacklynn Anderson of Oklahoma; Katherine Shimkat (Eddie) of Iowa; Alexander Dick of Iowa and five great-grandchildren: Eliasen Shearer, Riley Dick, Josslynn Anderson, Maria Anderson, and Trenton Dick. He is also survived by his siblings: Emma Ruth Dick Clark of Arizona; Elizabeth Brady of Colorado and William “Bill” Dick of Texas.

Grant is preceded in death by his father Eugene “Gene” Grant Dick, and his mother, Geneva Wells Dick.

A cremation has taken place, and a memorial graveside service will be held later for the family. Grant’s military service and dedicated career in public service exemplifies his commitment to his country and community. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication and his impact on the lives he touched.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
