Eric Paul Cavros

With deepest sorrow we announce that Eric Paul Cavros, our beloved son, cherished big brother, loving uncle, family member, and friend passed away suddenly on Nov, 23, 2023, 40 years of age, at Iowa Methodist Hospital.

Growing up, Eric enjoyed playing all sports, his favorite being basketball, whether it was in school, a pick-up game, or just shooting hoops.  Off the court, he made a lot of memories with his younger brother, Travis, playing video games, reenacting WWF wrestling matches, watching any sport that was on TV and riding bikes all over town. He always had a love for sneakers, which he would go on to collect, sell and trade.  He loved the sneaker community and was active in it locally.  He was passionate about sports and most importantly the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Eric was also an active fan in the local IMCA racing community, where he would often travel to tracks all over Iowa to support his favorite racers.  He liked to camp with his “favorite people” where he enjoyed playing (winning) corn hole.

Eric loved spending time with his family and cherished every moment he spent with his niece Olive, whether it was playing with toys, camping, going to the park, reading books, or just watching her “run amuck”.  He also loved and adored his cat Sassy who he rescued in 2015.

Eric graduated from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School and received an associates degree from Kirkwood Community College.

Eric worked at Jordan Creek Lowe’s for 17 years in various positions and received numerous awards from customer service awards to employee of the month.  He met a number of friends over the years and enjoyed his regular customers stopping by just to say hi.

Eric is survived by his parents Louis and Brenda (Walters) Cavros, brother Travis and Theresa (Ryan) Cavros, niece Olive, grandmother Suzanne (Ealy) Cavros, many aunts, uncles, cousins, family members, friends and his beloved cat Sassy.

Per Eric’s wishes, in lieu of a formal service, we ask that when you watch your favorite sports team, buy a pair of shoes, eat your favorite donut, strike up a conversation with a stranger, or anything that reminds you of him, cherish those moments as those are the moments that brought Eric joy.

We want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone that had a positive impact on Eric’s life. Our family deeply appreciates those who have reached out to support us as we grieve the tragic loss of a wonderful man who was taken from us too soon.

Donations can be made in Eric’s name to ARL Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
