Carolyn Landergott

Carolyn Landergott, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023. She was born to Edward and Luella (Wilde) Schiller in Minneapolis, MN on March 31, 1936. Carolyn was baptized in the Lutheran Church and confirmed at First Lutheran (now Faith Lutheran) church in Madison, MN. After the death of her father, the family moved from Madison, MN to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1953. Carolyn graduated from Franklin High School in 1954.

Carolyn married Ronald D. Landergott in 1958 and had 2 children, Deb and Eric. They divorced in 1988. She then worked for Manpower at Rockwell Collins. She moved to Eau Claire, WI in 1991 and opened the consignment shop “Encore”. After selling the business in 1996, she moved back to Cedar Rapids to be closer to her family and friends.

Carolyn enjoyed researching her family's (Schiller, Hardman, Fleenor, and Landergott) genealogy. She discovered that many of her ancestors were early settlers in St. Paul, MN and Butler and Floyd Counties in Iowa. This interest had her walking through pastures to find broken and scattered gravestones, restoring one, and going to many courthouses and historical societies in both Iowa and Minnesota.

Carolyn spent time traveling both in and out of the country. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens and getting together with friends and family members. She truly loved books and was an avid reader. She was a lover of all animals and taught her children to be as well.

Carolyn participated in many organizations throughout the years. She was “Playtime Poppy” with the Children’s Theatre of Cedar Rapids and a board member of the YWCA (now Waypoint) and the Visiting Nurses Association. Carolyn spent time as a member of the Elmcrest Golf Club from 1962 - 1986, the Linn County Genealogical Society, the Minnesota Territorial Pioneers, and served as president of the Jaycee Wives.

She is survived by daughter, Deborah Landergott (Jackie) of Momence, Ill., son Eric Landergott of Cedar Falls, IA, brother Edward G. Schiller (Gina) of Central City, IA, numerous nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Terri Schiller (Jed).

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister, Jackie Bendel, and her husband Ray of Madison, MN, her brother, George E (Jed) Schiller of Cedar Rapids, and her much-loved cat, Sam.

Carols family would like to thank West Ridge Care Center and Mercy Hospice for the consistent care and kindness shown to our Mom.

No public service will be held. A family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carolyn’s name to the Community Health Free Clinic www.communityhfc.org/donate/   or the Indian Creek Nature Center indiancreeknaturecenter.org/join-give/donate/ both in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
