Wayne Marquette

Wayne (Leo Wayne) Marquette, 95, of West Union, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023. A private funeral service will be held at a later date. 

Wayne was born on November 14, 1927 in West Union to Leo Edwin and Zella Mae (White) Marquette. He joined the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War for 1.5 years. He trained and worked as a plumber for 1 year after the service, then married Violet Darlene Stensland on October 17, 1954. Together they raised five children and ran the family farm. 

Wayne enjoyed fishing, gardening, cutting and splitting wood, and tinkering on the farm. He also loved spending time with family, and playing cribbage. 

Left to cherish Wayne’s memory are his children, Robin Marquette of West Union, IA, Julie Everett of West Union, IA, Jill Lynch of Coralville, IA, Todd Marquette of St Louis, MO, and Wade Marquette of Pierceton, IN; grandchildren, Karen Loebel, Constance Stickler, Katherine Hernandez, Andie Lynch, Claire Lynch, Mel Marquette, Tyler Marquette, and Ryan Marquette; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Stickler, Ayden Stickler, Brendan Loebel, Nathan Hernandez, Elijah Marquette, and Karson Marquette. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Marquette; his parents; sister, Doris Marquette Horney; and brother-in-law, Elmer Horney. 

The family would like to express their many thanks to each of you for your expressions of Christian love and kindness to them during this difficult time.
