Thomas Arthur Smith

Thomas Arthur Smith of Victor, Iowa passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the age of 60, with his loved ones by his side.  Tom was born on July 27, 1962, to Harry Lester and Elizabeth Ann (Osmond) Smith in Grinnell, IA.  His family includes his wife of 38 years, Kayla; two sons, Nicholas Smith of Victor, IA; and Jordan Smith (Friend Tracy Meyer) of Cedar Rapids, IA; three grandchildren, Beau and Kyzer Smith of Belle Plain, IA; and Jaelyn Smith of Cedar Rapids.

There will be a graveside service for Tom, Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Calvary Cemetery, Victor, IA with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion, Victor, IA.
 
Tom went to BGM Schools, graduating with the class of 1980.  After graduation Tom joined the United States Army serving from 1980 to 1983 with the HHC 1st Armored Division in Germany.  During his service he earned the Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon.   Upon return from his military tour Tom married the love of his life Kayla Jo Boothby Smith on April 13, 1985.  Tom and Kayla made their home in Victor and welcomed to this union two boys, Nicholas, and Jordan.  He worked at Whirlpool, retiring on May 1, 2023, after 37 years with the International Association of Machinist & Aerospace Workers, IAM Local 1526. 

Tom was an avid outdoorsman, growing up trapping, hunting, fishing, and camping.  One of his greatest joys these last few years was fishing and camping with Kayla, Nick, and family.  He loved seeing his grandsons, Beau and Kyzer fishing and playing at the lake and telling stories around the campfire. 

Surviving Tom are his wife, Kayla; two sons, Nicholas and Jordan Smith; grandsons, Beau and Kyzer Smith; a granddaughter, Jaelyn Smith; siblings, James (Paula) Smith, Shirley (Paul) Tines, Becky (Mitch) Smothers, John (Pennie) Smith; in-laws, Rick Foster; sisters-in-law; LaRae Rupp, Roselie Allen, Annie Heopnner, Joan Gryp, Betty (Jack) Hill and Kris Robinson.  He also had several nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces, all of which he treasured. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, William and Rosella Boothby, siblings Harry Smith Jr. And Kathy Foster, brothers-in-law William Boothby Jr., Harvey Allen, Elmer Heopnner and Dave Gryp.
