Leo Isaac Fitch, 93, of Colfax, Iowa, died of natural causes at the Newton Health Care Center, Newton, Iowa, surrounded by his family, on July 4, 2023.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 12 E Washington St., Colfax, IA, Saturday July 22, 2023, 10:30.
Leo was born, August 6, 1929, in Leon, Decatur County, Iowa, to Simeon Isaiah Fitch and Maude Victoria Williams. He moved to Des Moines, as an employee for Cargill. He married Ruth Eloise Ricker. After 66 years, she passed away in 2019. In 1991, Leo was honored and celebrated by Cargill, retiring as a plant supervisor. For the next thirty plus years he devoted himself to refurbishing lawn mowers and tractors, gardening, taking care of Ruthie, traveling local distances to cheer on friends of the community, attending grandchildren’s athletics and transportation to school activities. As he would say, “enjoying himself and people.”
Leo is survived by his three sons: Michael (Christine), Randall (Valerie), and Jeffrey (Jeanie); and daughter, Kimberly Scully (Neil); and 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Leo was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone.
