John Patrick Hyman

There are no words to express the tragic death of John Patrick Hyman, age 56 of Washburn, Iowa, while at work on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

John was always ready with a kind word or helping hand.  His presence brought a smile and happiness to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

John grew up in Hawkeye, Iowa, on his father’s family farm, with his grandparents, aunts and uncles actively in his life.  He graduated from North Fayette High School in 1985.  He went on to earn his Associates Degree through Northeast Iowa Community College and begin his career as a licensed journeyman electrician.

John worked hard so he could truly enjoy the fruits of his labor.  He loved to go ATV’ing in his Polaris Razor as well as snowmobiling with his friends, and family members including one of his dogs, RayLee.  Those trips took him to many scenic areas and states including Iron River, Colorado, South Dakota and cleaning up at Ricky Hageman’s. He valued and looked forward to time spent with friends during these excursions.

Earlier in his life he enjoyed stock-car racing, tractor pulling and go-kart racing......he loved to work on motors, tinkering away to make them run but always striving to get the most horse-power available.

John had a sweet and generous nature, selfless and loving.  John was loyal and protected those closest to him.

Let us not forget John’s enthusiasm for steak or his passion and gift for smoking meat.

John is survived by his wife, Janet (Gott) of 31 years, his dogs, PePe and Raylee.  His brother, David (Michelle) of Keota, Iowa.  His niece, Cortney (Maxwell) of Ames, IA and nephews, Matthew and Branden of Keota, Iowa.

His aunt Judy (Lowell) Lee of Schleswig, IA and their daughters, Kristin Lee of Denver, CO, Karla (Matt) Gross of Lakewood, CO and Kathy (Jordan) Scholl of Schleswig, IA and their children, Henry, Olivia and Vivian.

Phrases you may have heard John say, “Fine like frog’s hair”-in response to how are you doing today?

Or “NASA is closed today”.

Please no flowers or plants, thank you.

**Keep going cause that person in heaven don’t want you to quit
