Obituary for Gary Richard Collins

Gary Richard Collins, 74, passed away January 2, 2023, at his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He was born November 25, 1948, in Rapid City, South Dakota the son of the late Cullie and Mildred (McCoy) Collins.  

Gary was a 1966 graduate of Central High in St. Louis, MO.  He joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. After serving his country for 7 years, Gary settled in Machias, ME with his family and returned to college obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy and Finance at the University of Maine.  Gary’s career was spent in banking- retiring as a Vice President and Senior Loan Officer/Branch Manager at Machias Savings Bank and Bangor Savings Bank.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, coin and stamp collector, and had a genuine love of all animals; especially cats having had countless feline companions over his lifetime.  

He is survived by his two daughters - Cori Collins of Machias, ME and Jennifer (Collins) Ranke of Bangor, ME; two grandchildren – Jordan Ranke of Jonesport, ME and Zeke Ranke of Cumberland, ME; a great-grandson – Bowden Faulkingham of Jonesport, ME; two sisters - Cynthia Collins of Belleville IL, Collien (Collins) Beyer and husband George of O’Fallon, MO; a brother – Dale Horn and his wife Cassee of Lakeview, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his companion Alexandria (Sandy) Nassif who he lovingly spent the last several years of his life with.  

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Patricia (Doble) Collins; brother Rodney Collins, sister Mariana (Collins) Huhman and her husband George Huhman. 

Funeral services have not been planned at this time.
