Danny Lewis, Sr.
Mr. Danny Lewis, Sr. was the sixth child born to the late Jesse and Elnora (Huntley) Lewis of Durant, Mississippi. He was born May 21st, 1957, in Durant. God called him home January 25th, 2023, at 3:00 a.m. at his home, in the arms of his wife, in Waterloo, IA.
One daughter: Melanie Ranata Lewis, one brother: Willie C Lewis, two sisters: Annie Louise, Sarah Burrell, three adopted sisters: Nancy Donald, Debra Brown, Mattie Martin, one half-sister: Emma Lewis, one sister-in-law: Mary Lewis, have preceded him in death.
Danny Sr., better known as Dad (Daddy man), enjoyed several skills. He was a trained welder and served several members of his community with his skills of carpentry, plumbing, and concrete work. He shared these trades and skills with an entire generation of youth within his community, providing employment and on the job training. He served in this way until health failed him.
He touched all those around him. His nephew, Martez McBride, shares that “He’s the first dad in our family who was always there, and never left.”
He was devoted to family and loved ones. His biggest enjoyments came from fishing, playing games, and laughing with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Christ was always a part of his life, and he was well known to different church families in both Durant, as well as Waterloo, IA.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Christy Lewis of Waterloo, IA. To this union, one child was brought forth.

Nineteen grandchildren: Micah, Natavia, Cameron, SaNyia, Zaria, Keon, Kindall, Khloe, Markyse, Kiyana, Christopher (Bubba), Kyra Ann, Emma, Aaliyah, Stefon (Taffins), Danny III (Tres), Kyrice (Dab), Jaylen (Dice), Cayden (Light Up). Three sisters: Mary Lee Ball, Emma Butler, Louise (James) Winters, all of Durant, MS.; Two brothers: Jesse Lewis Jr, Eddie (Darleen) Lewis, both of Durant, MS.; One adopted brother: Wallace Green of Waterloo, IA.; Two half-brothers: Don Michael Lewis, Michigan and Allen Lewis, Wetumpka, AL.; Two sisters-in-law: Shelly (Shannon) Jones, Tina Carter, both of Waterloo, IA.; Two brothers-in-law: Robert McBride, Aaron (Cimmy) Ross, both of Waterloo, IA. As well as a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
