MSgt. Ret. Howard “Ray” Walters

MSgt. Ret. Howard “Ray” Walters, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away Wednesday February 14, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Entrusted with the arrangements is Iowa Cremation.

Howard was born August 19, 1942, in Christiansburg, Virginia to William and Mary (Wert) Walters. In November 1963, Howard enlisted into the US Airforce, where he proudly served for over twenty years. At the time of his retirement he was stationed at Offutt Air Base in Omaha, Nebraska where his family chose to remain. At that time, he held many different jobs the longest being at FDR from 1987 to 1999. It was there at FDR where he met his second wife, Penny Tory. After he retired, he and Penny moved to West Virginia, and they were married September 27, 2008.

Howard is survived by his loving spouse Penny Walters; daughters, Scheryl Walters, Nancy (Todd) Braley, and Carmela Reicks; grandchildren, Nicole (Tyler) Reher, Sarah Braley, and Ella Reicks; stepchildren, Philip Jacquet, Dirk Jacquet, and Corinne (Eric) Gintert, along with 12 step grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Susan Walters, and son-in-law Pete Reicks. 

Howard will be missed by the many people that have crossed his path in the last sixty years of his travels.
