Joe Frederick Gleason
Joe Frederick Gleason, Age, 70, of Waterloo, IA passed away at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lofty’s in Evansdale, IA, on March 25, 2023, details to follow.
Joe Gleason was born on February 29, 1952, in Hampton, Iowa. He was the son of the late, Edward and Irene Gleason. In 1971 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Nichols (Spooner). Two years later they welcomed their only child to this world, a son, Jamie. He served in the US Marines Corp from 1971-1974 when he was honorably discharged.
Joe spent his days building wheel chair ramps for Positive Steps, an organization he founded himself. He was also a dedicated member of AA for 25 years and was a AA sponsor to many fellow members. Joe also had many hobbies. He was a sports fan including boxing and watching football. But most of all he had a love for pool, and spent many years competing in pool league. It is a consensus among family and friends that Joe had a wonderful sense of humor, he was always willing to lend a hand, and will be missed by all.
Those left to cherish Joe’s memory are his son, Jamie (Amanda) Gleason, of Waterloo; his granddaughter, Kolena; his siblings, James (Julie) Gleason, of Waterloo, IA, David (Mary) Gleason, of Waverly, IA, many nieces and nephews, and many friends from AA and the Pool League. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Richard, and Frederick Gleason.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
