She became the wife of Hollis Duecker on August 7, 1949. Virginia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and friend.
Virginia, known for her curiosity and studious nature, had a passion for learning that she carried throughout her life. She attended Stratford High School and later pursued higher education at Coe College. With her thirst for knowledge, Virginia embarked on a fulfilling career in several Iowa school districts. She made a lasting impact as a teacher at Stratford Elementary, North Liberty Elementary, and also served as a substitute teacher in Cedar Rapids.
She was an avid Brewers baseball fan and was proficient in knitting, counted cross-stitch and sewing and other crafts.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Virginia was a loving and dedicated family woman. She is survived by her children Lynn Duecker (Cyndy), Ann Lem (Rick), and Karl Duecker (Gwen), and her brother Alton. Virginia’s memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren Tony Lem (Ashlea), Katie Blomgren (Sean), Nachelle Diesburg (Josh), Ryan Duecker (Tara), and Jason Duecker. She was a proud great-grandmother to Hunter, Cole, Avery, Molly, and Madden; step-grandchildren, Savanna, Catherine, James, Contessa, and step-great-grandchild Joseph John. She also leaves beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis, her twin brother, Vincel, her sister, Lois, and her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth. Their presence will be missed, but their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
The family would also like to mention her friends from both Northridge in Ames and Terrace Glen in Marion. A special thanks to the staff at Northridge who especially supported her in her final months.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Virginia on June 23 at Reiman Gardens in Ames. A private inurnment will have taken place the previous day. Virginia’s inquisitive nature, dedication to education, and love for her family will always be remembered. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
