Obituary for David A. Spaw

David “Spud” A. Spaw passed away peacefully while listening to Patsy Cline with his family and friends by his side on December 15, 2023.

 He was survived by his mother Dorothy Spaw, sisters Callie Crull, Cathie (Patrick) Freilinger, Cristie Belland, Carol Lee Spaw, several nieces, nephews, great nephews, and a great niece. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Spaw and brother-in-law Wayne Crull. David graduated from George Washington high school and received a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Iowa.

David had several exciting careers, the most notable were:
Team #33 ASA (American Speed Association) where he oversaw the Marketing and Sponsorship Development.
Team #90 in the NASCAR Busch Series where he was the Team Manager.
 Substitute teacher for Delaware County school system.
 Owned his own business as a general contractor. 

Spud’s hobbies included motor cross racing, water, slalom, barefoot skiing, working on cars, “piddling” and listening to a variety of music.

David had a passion for mentoring both young and old which had an impact on several lives. He was a loyal friend as evident by his longtime friendships with many people. 

The Lake Delhi Community will forever remember him where he was a longtime resident. A proud moment in his life was serving as a volunteer firefighter in the Delhi Fire Department, Delhi Iowa. He was a member of the Lake Delhi Hartwick Husky ski team starting in his teenage years through his adult life. 

Despite his debilitating stroke earlier in his life he never gave up and was an inspiration to not only his Family but to many.

His presence, laughter, humor, wisdom, and stories will be missed by his family throughout the coming years. We all love you!
