Barbara Underwood
On December 17th, 2023 Barbara Underwood reunited with the love of her life in heaven, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara was born in Waterloo, Iowa on April 11, 1956 to the late Major Ellsworth and Doris (McElree) Glasgow. On July 24, 1976 she was united in marriage to Jay Underwood. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Barb is survived by her daughters, Kelly Underwood of Heflin, Alabama, Mindy (Jay) Gordon, Libby (Cory) Underwood of Waterloo and her son, Brandon, also of Waterloo. Her grandsons, Tanner Underwood, Patrick Underwood and Bennett and Maddux Gordon were the light of her life. She is further survived by her brother, William Glasgow and her mother-in-law Janette Underwood, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends.
She loved animals, especially cats. They were her constant companions. She left behind Cookie, Weezie, Marshmallow, Sunshine and Blondie. These were the last of many cats she rescued, fed, and loved in her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and grandparents.
Barb loved eating out, especially at Culver's, the Hwy 63 Diner and J’s Homestyle. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and visiting Hy-Vee on Logan. Her grandsons’ sporting events were her favorite entertainment.
She didn’t want a funeral. She wanted people to remember her as she was before her illness. She will be interred in private, next to her husband at the Garden of Memories in Waterloo.
In accordance with her love for animals, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane society.
