Reita Humphreys

Reita Humphreys, 77 years of age, of West Chester, Iowa, passed from this life on Friday, August 18, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, due to complications following surgery.  Memorial will be held on Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 11:30 am.
West Chester Heritage Building (the old school) 510 Main Street, West Chester, IA. Interment will be in the West Chester Cemetery at a later date.

Ms. Humphreys was born May 16, 1946, in Washington, Iowa to Dorance and Osie (Messenger) Arduser.  She grew up in Washington and graduated with the Class of 1964.  She professed her life to Christ at an early age. She moved to West Chester in 1974 where she raised her children.  She was a member of Antioch Christian Church in Marion, Iowa.  She loved her Jesus and her church.  Ms. Humphreys loved to host gatherings of family and friends, enjoyed doing counted cross-stitch, genealogy, renovating her home, and being outside.  During her retirement years she was blessed to feed the hummingbirds and amazed by how perfectly they were created.  She was able to take an ocean cruise with her son and granddaughters and enjoyed traveling to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan where she was thankful to see the things that God had created for her.  Ms. Humphreys was grateful to witness the Total Solar Eclipse of 2017, to go to her babbling brook in Munising, MI, to walk on the Black Rocks at Presque Isle, Marquette, MI, and visit Lake Superior's Lighthouses.

Left behind to cherish her loving memory are her children: Wendy & Bryan Sylvester of West Chester; Matthew Humphreys of Altoona, WI; and Marcine & Eric Bean of Troy Mills.  Seven grandchildren: Kiersten, Joshua, and Nathan Bean; Kaitlyn & Reece Roling; Jadyn and Madalyn Humphreys; and Eric & Allison Sylvester.  Two great-granddaughters Ivy and River Sylvester.  Her siblings Richard Arduser and Wendell & Karen Arduser. Her sponsored child, through Compassion, Larabelle. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be greatly missed by her friends, community of fifty years, and her dear girls of Kalona.

She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law Trinidad “Trina” Humphreys, sister Marlin Meiners, infant brother Mervin, sister-in-law Janet Arduser, and niece Marcia Kellenberger.

In lieu of flowers Reita wanted you to consider packing a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child in her memory.
