Ellen Clare (Schneider) Sabin, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Friday, August 25th, 2023.

Funeral mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 29th, 2023 at All Saints Catholic Church, 720 29th St SE, Cedar Rapids by Reverend Jack Flaherty. 

Ellen is survived by two sons, Paul Sabin of Cedar Rapids; James (Cindy) Sabin of San Marino, CA; a daughter, Janet (Stephen) Meyer of Cedar Rapids; a nephew, Philip (Susan) Mascarelli of Milford, OH, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kathleen Mascarelli, her husband, and her best friend, Elly Nickel.

Ellen was born on June 18th, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Clarence and Kathryn (Mullen) Schneider. She attended Holy Cross and Villa Madonna Academy schools in Cincinnati and Covington, KY. She worked at Proctor & Gamble company in Cincinnati until marrying William Sabin on December 29, 1956 at Holy Cross Church in Latonia, KY.  Her three children were born in Covington and the family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1964. She began a successful career at the National Oats Company in 1971, beginning in the secretarial pool and retiring in 1993 after being administrative assistant to four company presidents. She organized the company’s annual St. Patrick’s day parade participation and annual Christmas parties. She had an uncanny attention to detail and ability to plan. She was a devoted and loyal wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and co-worker. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her compassion, devotion, and the love that she had for her family. Her leadership, wisdom and values will live on forever in the hearts of those who love and cherish her. 

She had an immense love for and faith in God and was a member of All Saints Church since 1964. 

Cremation has been entrusted to Iowa Cremation Services. Burial will be at Mother of God cemetery, Latonia, KY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy.

The echoes of her favorite phrase will always be with us: “Hug yourself for me”.
