Romie "Jack" Erwood

Romie “Jack” Erwood, Jr., 92, went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, April 20, 2023.  He fought the good fight, was loved by many, but truly longed to “go home.”

Jack was survived by his youngest daughter, Judith Ann (Robert) Thompson, step-children, Dan (Janis) Jackson, Charlee Wolff, three grandchildren, Jonathan (Bethany) Steadman, Cassie (Ben) Quarry, Callie (Michelle) Proctor, five great-grandchildren, Aurin (Starr), Daniel, Avery, Rory and Logan and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents (Jack and Edna), two wives (Julia and Argent), his brother (Frank) and oldest daughter (Jackie).

Before illness claimed him, Jack was full of life and lived it to the fullest.  He spent many years as a Boy Scout and then, as an adult, a Scout Master.  He served his country and was a veteran of the Air Force.  Jack tirelessly took care of his first wife (Julia) who battled with breast cancer, his father (Jack, Sn.) who battled with bone cancer and his second wife (Argent) who battled with Alzheimer’s.  He felt it was an act of love to care for those God entrusted to him.  Jack also loved to make people smile and did so often when he would perform various magic tricks or tell amusing anecdotes.  He took pleasure in the simple things:  eating Mexican pizza, drinking Frappes, having a bowl of ice cream before bed, going to the library, playing card games and spending time with family and friends.

But Jack’s main passion was serving his Lord and Savior.  He faithfully served his various church homes in whatever capacity God called him:  Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, board member, Children’s group teacher, visitation, usher, men’s group … wherever there was a need, Jack stepped up.  He loved to read his Bible, share his faith, and faithfully pray for his children, grandchildren and all his family.

His daughter, Judith Ann, remembers Jack in connection with 2 Timothy 4:7 – 8, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.”

Be at peace, Jack … you are loved and will be missed.
