Matthew William Hemminger, 51 of Fairfax, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Private services and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Matthew was born March 2, 1972, in Cedar Rapids to Pam Akers and Tom Hemminger. He attended Washington High School and worked for Ryan Companies. Matthew enjoyed many outdoor activities, biking, fishing and rock climbing. He had many outstanding qualities, but his great sense of humor and mischievous grin are unforgettable. Matthew excelled at work and loved his Ryan Companies family. He lived life on his own terms and never let any grass grow under his feet. Matthew had many adventures and travels in his lifetime, and he was always thinking of his next adventure or invention.
Those left to keep his memories alive are his mother and stepfather Pam and Al Akers; a sister and brother-in-law, Michele and George Hahn; daughter, McKenna; son, Merrick; nephews, Chase and Chandler Bolton and his dog, Nyla.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father Tom, a sister Elizabeth and grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the family.
