Lonnie Franklin Piper

Lonnie Franklin Piper, 84 of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on April 29th, 2023. Lonnie was born to Ed and Vivian (Hadsall) Piper on August 30, 1938 in Des Moines, IA and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. Upon graduation, he joined the Air National Guard and began his life as an electrician with IBEW, which took him many places over his career. Following the Air National Guard, Lonnie served in the Army Reserve for many years.

Lonnie married Judy Crouch and had four children - Lori, Jeff, Jim and Jon; later, he was married to Karlene Stevens and gained 5 stepdaughters - Kristi, Karen, Karma, Kori and Kelly. He enjoyed fixing and selling many homes over the years (in Waterloo and Florida) - long before “flipping” became a thing to do! He also enjoyed many activities - hunting, fishing, traveling, watching the Hawkeyes, and being present when any social opportunity arose.

Lonnie is survived by his dear sister Lynnette Longo of Lauderdale Lakes, FL and her children, in addition to his children and stepchildren. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren survive him.
Per his wishes, Lonnie was cremated and burial of his remains will be Friday, May 19th at 2pm - at Highland Memory Garden in Des Moines.
