Obituary for Greta Gnagy

Greta Gnagy, 88, of West Des Moines, IA, passed away on 4/20/2023. She leaves behind a sister, two daughters and four grandchildren.

Born in Nuremberg, Germany, she was raised by relatives out in the country to escape the dangers of living in a town that was often bombed during World War 2. She met her husband after he defected from communist Yugoslavia, and together they moved to Australia and then fulfilled their dream of coming to America. They raised their family in California and had many happy memories at their cabin in beautiful Lake Tahoe. She enjoyed her lengthy career working at the Jackson Library at Stanford University.

After the death of her first husband, she remarried and had a wonderful life full of traveling the world with her new best friend. After his death, she relocated to Iowa to be near her grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her strength, her love of dogs and travel, and her love for her family.
