Denny Ray Black 71, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Denny was born on November 1, 1951, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Ed and Jean (Fairlie) Black. When he was four years old, his family moved to Chariton, Iowa where they farmed until eventually moving into town. Denny was a 1970 graduate of Chariton High School. He met Joan Merklin in 1974 and they were married in 1978. Together they had three boys. As the boys grew, Denny shared his love of hunting and fishing. He taught them other lessons along the way. Denny was so proud of the fine men his boys grew up to be.
Survivors include his wife of forty-four years Joan Black of Cedar Rapids, sons Justin, Ryan, and Brandon and their spouses, six grandchildren, sister Celia (Bob) Goering and nephew Brian all of Chariton, and two sisters-in-law and their families from Cedar Rapids.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ed and Jean Black and parents-in-law Don and Agnes Merklin.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Oldorf Hospice House for the care and support that was given to Denny.
