Marian (Mary) Catherine Welch
Marian (Mary) Catherine (Dunne) Welch, of Ames, IA, died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Accura Healthcare in Ames. She was one day shy of her 82nd birthday. A funeral mass will be held Friday, September 30, 2022, at 10am at St Thomas Aquinas church in Ames. Mary chose to be cremated and will be interred in the columbarium in the gardens of the church following mass, of which she was a long-time member.
Mary was born on September 26, 1940 in Andrew, IA, the daughter of Frank and Kathryn (Barth) Dunne.
After graduating from Andrew High School, she later married Charles Welch, with whom she shared two daughters, Cosette Bergman and Joyce (Robert) Dilley. Her and Charles owned and operated a grocery store in Davenport before later divorcing.
Mary moved to Boone, IA where she worked as a purchasing agent for the NADC in Ames before retiring. After retirement, she continued to work part-time at various Casey’s locations in Boone and Ames.
During her free time, Mary enjoyed walking the trails at Ledges State Park, taking weekly road trips with her daughters, attending school and sporting events for her grandchildren, visiting the Amana colonies for Mother’s Day, and especially watching her great-grandsons play.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Francis Dunne and Charles Dunne. Those left to honor her memory include her sister-in-law Eileen (Charles) Dunne, daughters, grandchildren Kathryn (Zane Hauck) Bergman, Sheila Bergman, Raven (Tyler Moen) Dilley, and Brandon Dilley, great-grandchildren Soren and Leo Hauck, along with many extended family members and friends.
