Barbara "Barb" Howe
On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, Barb, 71 of Davenport, Iowa passed away surrounded by her family. She was born in Davenport on November 27, 1950, to the late Dayton and Doris Howe of DeWitt, IA. Barb and husband Joe Smith were together for forty years, and married on February 20, 2002. She was second mother to Eryn (Jorge) Ramos and Megan Nanninga, and Grandma Barbie to Drake, Dylan, Devin and Carter. She was sister to Bruce (Camille), Jane, John (Sue) and Lexie (Tom), and aunt to Ann Marie, Austin, Elise, Drew, Madeleine and Vivian. She was much beloved by her family.
Barb attended Dubuque Senior High School and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in art. She was a partner with Hanson Watson Howe Advertising, and later was owner of Howe Creative. She served on the board of the Quad Cities Advertising Federation, and was involved with numerous organizations, including the Niabi Zoo and the Quad Cities Botanical Center. Barb was an amazingly talented artist and photographer. She loved traveling, gardening, and going to hear blues bands. Family was very important to Barb, especially her Joe. Barb was a lovely, gracious person who was kind to everyone she met. Her enthusiasm, sense of humor, and joy of life brightened the lives of those around her. Her gentle spirit lives on in our hearts.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Barb on Saturday, October 22 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Keppy Hall, Grandstand Way, Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, Davenport, IA 52804.
