Richard Drtina

Richard Drtina, age 83, of Cresco, Iowa passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Evan’s Memorial Home in Cresco. 
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. 

Richard George Drtina was born on October 7, 1939, the son of George J. and Helen (Nibaur) Drtina at the family farm near Davis Corners. He attended school in Cresco and graduated from Cresco High School in 1958. 

He was united in marriage to Sonia Burgess on October 18, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cresco. To this union two children were born. Richard made his livelihood on the family farm. He did both crop and dairy farming as well as raising a variety of other livestock. 

In later years he and Sonia enjoyed traveling, and going to flea markets and garage sale. Richard loved his dog Connor, who was always by his side. 

He is survived by his children, Daniel Drtina (Karon Fromm) of Cresco, and Robin (Dave) Sobolik of Cresco; grandchildren, Alanda (Brandon) Meyer of Cresco, Brendan Drtina of Cresco, Ciara (Tim) Keck of Cedar Rapids, Brian (Lyndsey) Sobolik of Elma, Jayme Sobolik of Cedar Falls, and Cody Sobolik of Cresco; and great-grandchildren, Sam & Jameson Meyer, Henslie & Hadlee Sobolik, and Arya Keck. He is also survived by his brother, David (Patti) Drtina of Cresco; and brother-in-law, Don (Deb) Burgess of St. Charles, Mo. 

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Sonia; his parents, George J. and Helen Drtina; and his father and mother-in-law, John R. and Bernetta Burgess.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Richard’s memory to Notre Dame School, Cresco or Howard County Hospice.
