Obituary for Larry Dean Iles

Larry Dean Iles was born on July 17, 1937 to John W. Iles and Sylvia Opal (Bass); he left his earthly home on October 25, 2022 at the age of 85. He rejoins the love of his life Carolyn, as well as son Lyle, his brother Fred, and his parents and bandmates who preceded him in journeys to a heavenly home.

He is survived by siblings John D (Memory) Iles, and Irene (Dick) Lass; 3 children: Deb (Rich) Engelhorn, LuAnn (Dean) VanLangen, and Larry E (Robin) Iles. His grandchildren: Aaron (Megan) PaYerson, Dean (Amanda) Chally, Monica (Brad) Phillips, Rachel (Ron) Thompson, John (Allie) Iles, Ashley (Cody) Frazier, Todd (Eva) VanLangen, Charli Engelhorn and Marie Engelhorn will recollect his energetic Easter scavenger hunts in the woods. His numerous great-grandchildren and family remember fondly all the activities and memories of visiting down by the river: music, fishing, sandbars, rock skipping, creek wading, sledding, pet hummingbirds, hikes in the timber, and walks down the lane.

Larry found and shared delight with others through the time he spent playing music with friends, fishing, tinkering, camping, mushroom hunting, tending secret asparagus patches, and gardening in the rich soil of a flood plain. If it had a hook and a line he could catch fish with it; and if it had strings, he could play it. He will be lovingly remembered by many, and those who were lucky enough to visit will treasure the precious memories made, down by the river.

A short service for family and friends will be held on Saturday November 5, at 1pm at the chapel at Athens Woods Estates in Stratford. A time to share memories and refreshments with family and friends will occur immediately following the service before family proceed to Oakwood Cemetery near Hook’s Point for interment.
