Darlene Ann Messerli
Darlene Ann Messerli, 84, of Volga, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at the Elkader Care Center.
She was born Sep 16, 1938 to Walter and Maggie (Jach) Fish and grew up in Fayette. She moved to Volga in 1969. Darlene joined the Volga Community Club in 1975 and volunteered her time for over 40 years. She helped organize the first annual 'Turkey Dinner' in 1977 along with Mother's Day brunches and various other fund-raising events and those proceeds would go toward Santa gifts for children in the community. Darlene worked several years at Atwood in West Union and also spent several years mowing and caring for the Volga city park and local cemeteries. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and doing puzzles but most of all spending time with her family, friends, and pets.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Lockard, Charles Lockard, Daniel (JoLene) Messerli, and Clement (Rene) Messerli; grandchildren Lacey, Jenifer, Tanner, Peyton, Samantha, and Nathan; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Nels Lockard, Arthur Morse, Louis Messerli; sisters Ardella, Mildred; and brothers Harley, Harold, Walter Jr, and Howard.
A memorial service will be Dec 17th, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Volga Lutheran Church.
