Dean Ahrens, 90, of Stratford, Iowa died Friday, May 6th, 2022, at Stratford Nursing and Rehab where he had been a resident for several years. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 20th, 2022, from 4 to 7 PM at the Athens Woods Fellowship Hall in Stratford, Iowa.

Dean Charles Ahrens, son of Andrew and Clara (Murkin) Ahrens, was born November 12, 1931, in rural Boone County. He attended St. Pauls Church School. Dean served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. On November 10, 1955, he married Ellen Lynch in Gibson City, Illinois. They resided in Stratford most of their married life. Dean was a carpenter co-owning Ahrens Brothers Construction with his brothers Dale and Jean. Prior to retirement he worked for Story Construction.

Dean’s hobbies included arrowhead hunting, mushroom hunting, gardening, and woodworking.

Dean was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church and the Stratford American Legion Post 576.

Dean is survived by his wife Ellen, daughters Jenifer (Lowell) Crim of Stratford, Julie Echelberger of Greeley Colorado, son Brett (Kristi) Ahrens of Stratford; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; sister Ann (Gene) Otte of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Alex, brothers Edward, Lawrence, Warren, Ray, Jean, his twin brother Dale, and sister Iris Frazier.

A private family burial of the cremains will be at a later date at Oakwood cemetery in Stratford, Iowa. Iowa Cremation has assisted the family with arrangements.
