Dale B. Atwood

Dale B. Atwood, Age 83, of Monticello, IA passed away at his home following an extended illness, per his wishes, cremation has taken place, with private graveside services held at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa.

Dale was born on October 8, 1938, in Langworthy, IA. He was the son of the late Merle and Anna (Brokens) Atwood. He grew up in Jones County and graduated in 1956 from Monticello High School, where he participated in track, football, and FFA.

After school, Dale served four years in the US Air Force as a plane mechanic and was stationed in Europe for much of that time. He worked for Barrow Motors, Secrist Construction, and in petroleum sales for Linn-Jones FS Services, from where he retired after 26 years. In retirement, he worked part-time at the Super 8 Motel in Anamosa. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and attending activities of his kids and grandkids. More recently, he enjoyed watching westerns and sports, especially the Hawkeyes.

Dale is survived by sons Brett of Ankeny, Mitch (Priscilla) of Round Rock, TX, and daughter Cari of Olin, IA; grandchildren, Aaron Gearhart of Monticello, Libby Atwood, of Anamosa, IA, Lucas, Annabelle Atwood, and Rebecca (Jared) Wooten, as well as great-grandsons, William and Gunar, all of Round Rock, TX; Carol (Remington) Atwood, the mother of his children; nephew, Scott (Randy) Sterling of Wasilla, AK, and niece Sara (Ron) Lee of Orem, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Glenn Sterling, sister Dorothy Mae in infancy. 

The family appreciates above and beyond Hospice for their excellent care of Dale while he was in their care.
