Jerry John Snider
Jerry John Snider was born on August 21, 1943, to Merle and Gladys (Higby) Snider in Madrid, Iowa. He passed away peacefully at his home in Gilbert, Iowa, Sunday, March 13, 2022.
Jerry graduated from Madrid High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Janice Carlson in a double wedding ceremony with William Peterson and Carole Carlson in 1962. Jerry worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber for 9 years before becoming a law enforcement officer. He served in Slater and Madrid, Iowa, before joining the Ames Police Department where he served for 30 years retiring at the rank of Captain in 2001. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, traveling, fishing, and rebuilding cars.
He is survived by his wife Janice Snider, daughter Jacqueline Snider, sons Steven (Kimberly) Snider and Douglas Snider, grandchildren Joshua (Sami) Snider, Alyssa Snider and Gage Snider, and sisters Betty Strait and Connie LaValley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William, Larry, Ronnie and Danny, and sisters Carol Snider and Marla Cowden.
There will be an informal celebration of life reception on March 26, 2022, at the Red Buchman Community Center in Gilbert, Iowa, from 2:00-5:00pm.
