Richard A. Gerhards
Richard A. Gerhards was born on March 22, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa. He passed away on June 9, 2022, in Clive, Iowa. Richard was the son of Al and Myrtle Gerhards.
Richard served in the Navy as a cook and baker. He served on the USS Whetstone LSD27 towards the end of the Korean War. In 1954, Richard married Carol Moore. In 1964, he married Bette (Raubain) Shaver. Richard worked as an electronics salesman for Mid State Distributing for many years.
Richard loved spending time with his family, reading, movies, watching sports, music, and eating Twinkies, taffy, and drinking Dr. Pepper.
Richard is survived by his sons Matthew (Michelle Johnson) Gerhards, Alex (Ann) Gerhards, his daughter Lorie Burns, and his brother Robert Gerhards. He is survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and lifelong friends. Many thanks to Deb and Dave Phillips who provided such wonderful and special care to Richard in his final years. Words cannot express our gratitude to you.
