Mary A. Hagist

Mary A. Hagist, 57, of Iowa City, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at home with her husband caring for her.
She was born on December 26, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Marion and Gladys (Norris) Reinhardt. She was united in marriage on May 28, 1988, in North Liberty, Iowa to Brent Hagist.

Mary was a very proud mother of twins and loving wife for 34 years.  She also took pride in the work she did as a paralegal and continued to work courageously through her health battles.  She loved many sports and watched Football, hockey, auto racing, even curling or pickle ball if it was what was on.  If you played a trivia game you fought to have her on your team.  She loved NCIS and had a network of fan girls that she loved dearly.  She enjoyed reading and was an excellent writer.  Her fandom and Twitter friends became real life friends. Her sense of justice attracted many people whom she encouraged to give their best personally, professionally, and creatively. She loved to laugh and could always cheer someone up. She loved Christmas, but never wanted any gifts but rather found joy in decorating and shopping for others.  She did not eat many sweets, but loved making baskets of baked goods for everyone else.  Her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies were amazing.  She was an ally and  fierce  supporter of equality.   She defied the odds and stayed with us much longer than they thought anyone could, but in the end she still left us all too soon.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Brent Hagist of Iowa City, Iowa; twins, Timothy Hagist, Alex Hagist; father, Marion (Susie) Reinhardt; sister, Kathi Kimbrell.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Iowa City in Mary’s honor.
