Charles Joseph Baxter

Charles Joseph Baxter was born November 13, 1938 in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Raised by Charles C. and Marie Baxter, he graduated high school in 1957. While in high school, Charlie enlisted in the Navy in May 1957. He served in the Navy and Naval Reserves until 1963 with assignments at Great Lakes, Memphis and Corpus Christi as an Electrical Tradesman.  

Charlie met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Andrew, and married her November 3, 1962. He worked as a Quality Engineer at Control Data for 17 years. Mary and Charlie welcomed 3 children into their lives while in Minnesota, Carol, Charles and Patrick. The family moved to Forest City, IA in 1978 where Charlie had an opportunity to run his own business, Forest Water Conditioning. He retired 22 years later in 2000.

Charlie had many hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, Formula 1 racing, college basketball and his beloved Minnesota Vikings.

Charles Joseph Baxter is preceded in death by his daughter Carol Marie Baxter, his parents Charles C. and Marie Baxter, his sister Mary (Baxter) Christopherson, his brother Dick Baxter and his daughter-in-law Christine (Allen) Baxter.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen (Andrew) Baxter; sons Charles A (and Wendy) and Patrick (and Michaela); his sister Catherine (Baxter) Zdechlik; brothers Pat and Tom Baxter as well as his 3 grandsons, Charles R., Daniel and Jason.

Charlie was loved by many and will be missed. Charlie passed quietly and peacefully in his sleep at home on June, 3rd.

A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at the Bear Creek Golf Course, Forest City, Iowa on Saturday, June 18th from 4-7 PM.

Charlie will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday, July 2nd at 9:30 AM.
