Burton Robert Hogan

Burton Robert Hogan aka Hogie or Burt, 77, passed away on June 18th, 2022 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his loved ones. Burt was born on January 2, 1945, to the late Burton and Helen Lee Hogan in Osage, Iowa.  He graduated from high school and then enlisted in the United States Navy.  He served from 1962 to 1964 and was honorably discharged due to his flat feet.  Burt was a member of the Staceyville , IA American Legion and Honor Guard as well as the local Carving Club in Osage, IA and enjoyed volunteering at Riceville, IA Food Bank.

The Ole Poop was a character and full of spunk.  He truly lived life according to his rules. He loved having fun and was always the loudest cheerleader. He celebrated even the smallest of victories with his hooting and hollering that typically had his family laughing and celebrating along with him.  His passion for life was infectious. His signature Indian song and dance was a family favorite along with his calling of the owls. His passions included the great outdoors; fishing, hunting, bird watching aka “birdin” and stalking animals in the timber were among his favorite pastimes. He had an artistic eye that was rare; he would look at a stump, piece of driftwood or rock and see something no one else could see until he brought it to life. He was a truly an amazing artist making beautiful artwork, cherished by many who had crossed his path. He also enjoyed painting in his later years.

Burt was a simple man.  His most treasured possessions were not things, but the people in his life and the memories that were made along the way.  Burt’s family was his most treasured possession of all.

He is survived by his amazing children, Heidi Hogan Perrin and her tribe: Cortney (Josh), Douglas, Joslyn and Dallas, Tina Brown and her Honyoks: Kyle and Danielle, Chad (Amy) Olson and his family: Scott and Brittany; sister, Madeline Hussett, nieces and nephews and seven great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death and has been reunited in huge celebration by both of his parents, special friend; Vivian Schaer Hogan; son, Scott Olson, who passed away on the same day as Burt 33 years ago on June 18, 1989; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life has been planned in Hogie Style at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 23rd at King’s Cabin 3115 465th Street McIntire, Iowa 50455. The family will be providing a light brunch. Please bring your lawn chair, stories, and photos to share.

Cards, flowers, and gifts can be sent to the family of Burton Hogan in care of Heidi Perrin. The family will be sure these are at the celebration.
