John A. Campo

John A. Campo passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

John was born August 1, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Maria Campo. John attended Dowling High School and graduated in 1965.  He worked as a diesel technician most of his life and had been retired for many years. He attended mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Des Moines and Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlisle.  He enjoyed trout fishing; hunting; gardening; mushroom hunting and sharing; reading; cooking and eating; sitting outside by the fire pit; and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his four children, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren: Kris (George) Burnett (Benjamin Burnett, Katelyn Burnett, Andrew Burnett); Catherine (Erik) Hohler (Isabella Hohler, Jillian Hohler); Tracey (Eric) Campo-Westergaard (Reece Westergaard, Grace Westergaard); and Jon (Mindy) Campo (Kayla Campo, Meghan (Jacky) Silsby (Maicey Silsby, Blaire Silsby), Gabe Campo, and Ryan Campo. He is also survived by his ex-wife/mother of his five children, Darlene Campo; two sisters, Albina Querrey and Linda Boyd; and many nephews and nieces. 

John was preceded in death by his son, Robert Campo; his parents; his older brother, Sigifredo Campomagnani; and his younger brother/closest friend, Fred Campo.

John’s final wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will occur on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlisle, Iowa.
