Eleanor Gay Moffit

Eleanor Gay Moffit age 82 passed away July 6, 2022 at home surrounded by her daughters.  

Gay was born November 11, 1939 to Herbert and Oletha (Lenig) Hedrick in Iowa City.  Gay attended North English High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Robert E Moffit.  They were united in marriage on December 29, 1956 in North English IA.

Gay retired from English Valley Schools as Head Cook for many years.  She enjoyed camping and trail rides with Robert and many friends.  After Robert passed away, she started traveling with her daughters.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, and playing cards with friends and talking on the phone.  She always had time for her daughters and grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Moffit, parents Herbert and Oletha Hedrick, in-laws Wayne and Martha Moffit and grandson Steven Knipfer. 

Gay is survived by her daughters, Debra Toler of North English IA, Sherrie (Ron) Maschmann of North English, and Kristi Hargis of Council Bluffs. Grandchildren Carrie Knipfer, Ryan (Tiffany) Knipfer, Megan Forrest, Trent Forrest, Danielle Weldon, Jeannie Hargis, Jessica (Travis) O’Dell, Janna Hargis, Rhonda (Jason) Waters, Renee Maschmann, Michelle (Kendall) Koehn.  14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandsons. 

Graveside Services will be held at Perisol Cemetery at 1pm on Saturday July 9, 2022.  Friends and Family are invited to meet with the family from 2-4pm to share memories at the North English Community Center. Family will direct memorials.
