Earl Patrick Mitchell

Earl Patrick Mitchell, 73, passed away on July 20, 2022.  There will be a visitation on Saturday, July 30th at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa.  Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mcgregor, Iowa following the funeral.

Earl was born on May 6, 1949 to James and Theresa (Hammel) Mitchell.  After graduating from St. George High School in Lansing, Iowa in 1967, Earl enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam.

Earl was the youngest of 12 children including: Jimmy, Lorny, Kenny, Mary Jo, Teresa, Jerry, Raymond, Peter, David, Esther, and Billy.

Earl married Arlis Breeser on June 20, 1970.  They had four children:  Mike (Mary) Mitchell of New Albin, IA; Cindy (Mike) Lacey of Galena, IL; Matt Mitchell of New Albin, IA; and Mark Mitchell also of New Albin, IA.

Earl worked for the city of New Albin as a police officer and for Konkel Sawmill and Heiderscheit Garage as a mechanic.

Earl loved the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, canoeing and fishing and ran a bait and tackle shop during his free time in New Albin.  He took many trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, sharing its beauty with family and friends.  He also shared his love of hunting with his children and many others.

After leaving New Albin, Earl married Donna Ryan on August 30, 2002 in Marion, Iowa.  Donna and her daughter Jennifer shared a home with him in the Manchester, IA area.

Earl enjoyed traveling and biking with Donna.  They spent time together helping others in their spiritual journeys.
Earl is survived by his children: Mike, Cindy, Matt, Mark and Jennifer; grandchildren Mikey, Vaughan, Hannah, Aran, Olivia, Henry, Tyler and Brantley;  Siblings:  Lorny, Raymond, David, and Esther.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, and siblings:  Jimmy, Kenny, Mary Jo, Teresa, Jerry, Peter, and Billy.
