Rosetta Mae Kruse

Rosetta (Rosie) Mae Kruse, 70, passed away on Wednesday, January 19th in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on July 24th, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa to Ruben and Helen (Kulp) Flake.

Rosie was blessed to be part of a very large family with numerous siblings and was later fortunate enough to be fostered by Charles and Carolyn Geertz of Muscatine, Iowa. During that time, she met Kenneth Kruse, whom she married in December 1969. That union brought together 6 children from their previous relationships, followed by adding 3 more of their own.

Rosie was a caretaker at heart and enjoyed being a CNA for many years, including time spent at Sunrise Terrace and McCreedy’s. She never met a stranger, striking up conversations with everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

In recent years, Rosie loved spending time with her grandkids and roaming the countryside with her friend Cathy Eaton. Rosie often referred to the two of them as Thelma & Louise, as you’d never know where they would end up at.

Rosie is survived by her foster parents: Charles & Carolyn Geertz; Her children: Jeff (Melissa) of Brighton, Kenny Jr. (Sonya) of Haskins, Brad (Jessica) of Winfield, Donna (Matt) of Burlington; Stepchildren: Kenlyn of Sioux City, Dale (Tim) of Hopkins MN, Joel (Kim) of Muscatine, Susie (Bret) of Fruitland and Eric of Cedar Rapids; as well as 8 grandkids and 5 step-grandkids.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 29th at 2:00 pm at the Winfield Veterans Building. All those who knew Rosie are encouraged to attend and share memories of her. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Hospice Compassus in Rosie’s memory.
