Ernest Ray Mundy, Jr.

Ernest Ray Mundy, Jr. was born in Des Moines, IA on Feb. 2, 1945, to E. R. Mundy, Sr. and Margaret (Van Buskirk)Mundy-Riley.  Ray passed away at home from a short battle with lung cancer on Jan. 19, 2022.

Ray was a proud east sider of Des Moines, Iowa where he married Jane Rooney on Sept. 7, 1962.  They had 2 children, Tammy and Charles.  In 1984 he married his current wife, Lorna.  Ray started a lifetime career in floor covering and tile setting at Armstrong Brothers, working his way up to setting tile for several custom home builders in the Des Moines area and was always ready to share his knowledge and a helping hand when he could.  Ray taught the flooring trade to several people, including family, leading them to a lifetime of income for many families.  Ray was among one of the first few bow hunters in Iowa starting in the 60’s and enjoyed many other outdoor activities including many Canada fishing trips.  Ray enjoyed being around family and friends and was always ready for a good family picnic.  Other hobbies included bowling, gardening, cooking, and woodworking.

Ray was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Step-Father Charles ‘Bud’ Riley, 2 Step-Mothers, 5 sisters (Jean, Patty, Sharon, Judy and Linda), 1 brother (John Mundy), several brother and sister in-laws, 2 nephews and 2 nieces.

Ray is survived by his wife, 4 brothers, 13 sisters, his son and daughter, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many other family members.

Services for Ray will be held at Bethel Chapel 1152 330th Ave. in Woodburn, IA on Feb 5th with  Family receiving friends at 1 pm and service at 2 pm.
